My name is Belen Ramirez and I am a candidate for VP Finance. I am a third year Microbiology major with a minor in Latina/o Studies. Being a first generation college student, I have learned how difficult university can be not only because of the pressures of more rigorous coursework but with having to balance that with extracurriculars, jobs, family, health, and social lives. After witnessing and being a part of last year’s events like protests to defend and advance Ethnic Studies and in the deal with Coca-Cola, I have seen that SF State is a community that believes in supporting each and every member of our campus. The organization and mobilization of students can create change and I believe that we should have student leaders are passionate and determined to speak out, develop, and implement programs that support our students’ needs. I believe that it is vital that students have resources on campus that nurture and empower them to reach their fullest potentials. In running for VP finance, I believe in putting the voices of our students at the forefront of every negotiation, of every program developed and of every issue addressed. I believe in providing transparency, creating confidence and upholding values true to our student body through appropriate financial decisions and proposals. If elected, I am and promise to be detail oriented, organized and vigilant in developing AS budget and documenting funding received in order to allow for the successful maintenance and expansion of student programs.
