Thanks & Appreciation

We’d like to give a special thanks to our AS Early Childhood Education Center, AS Productions, and AS Facilities & Operations teams for their hard work on campus throughout the pandemic. This last year was the toughest yet, but our AS Programs persevered & came together to continue providing excellent service to our student body & campus community.

AS Programs

Associated Students is composed of many different departments & areas, including 13 AS Programs, each with their own distinct history & priorities.

While each Program focuses on a separate area, we all serve as the official voice of the students, and we share the same goal of providing support, services, resources & safe spaces for our students.

In 2021, let’s take pride in our shared accomplishments & celebrate one another for our resilience & successes.

AS Art Gallery

The AS Art Gallery operates in alignment with the Richard Oakes Multicultural Center to provide students with opportunities, resources, arts-related events, and a range of insightful and visually captivating artworks that reflect and actively engage with the community.

We further strive to foster cross-cultural exchange with artists and audiences & produces some of San Francisco’s most socially relevant and visually compelling exhibits. Each show is dedicated to providing insight and information about aesthetic movements, contemporary issues, and/or social justice through interactive, multi-media & other visual modes.

Rooted in the ancestral legacy of queer activists, visionaries, and San Francisco State University’s commitment to social justice and community engagement, the QTRC endeavors to offer LGBTQQIA-related events, services, and resources to students. We also serve as an umbrella organization linking various student organizations such as Queer Alliance, Pride Committee, and CEASE/SAFE Place that work to create events and resources for the LGBTQQIA community on campus.

With the awareness that all forms of oppression are inherently interconnected, the Queer and Trans Resource Center focuses on building alliances with ethnic, political, religious, and arts communities at San Francisco State University and beyond. The center is open to all students who wish to join in our efforts to promote awareness and understanding of LGBTQQIA-related identities, issues, and culture.

AS LRC

Legal Resource Center

The LRC’s mission in our work and events is to empower students and staff through education of their legal rights and access to pro bono or inexpensive legal aid. As a program, we understand how legal issues and the law itself can be intimidating, especially to students, who are particularly vulnerable.

Part of our mission revolves around removing the fear and anxiety-inducing aspect the law presents to those who are not well versed or experienced in the matter. The LRC accomplishes this through our on-staff attorney, educational events and collaborations, student staff-led legal research, as well as our updated library.

The latter assists in a self-help approach through easy to understand language and breakdowns of the steps needed to resolve specific legal issues such as tenant/renter’s rights, estate planning, small claims, employment law, and other areas of law we discover client’s having common issues with.

Additionally, the LRC provides resources and supports students considering law school through our TestMaster LSAT Prep event and our new implementation of LSAT Prep Book giveaways.

AS Project Rebound

Project Rebound is a long-standing California State University (CSU) special admissions program for students transitioning out of prison and jail. Currently there are 14 participating campuses that provide high-touch, wrap-around support to formerly incarcerated individuals to apply for admission, matriculate, and graduate ready to succeed in the workforce.

Our purpose is to be living examples of successful reintegration in a college setting. We believe in higher education as an alternative to incarceration and promote it as an effective tool for social, academic, and professional reintegration for system-involved students.

AS Productions

Productions mission is to provide a wide and culturally diverse variety of events, both entertaining and culturally enriching, for the SF State student body and Bay Area public. We strive to keep admission costs as low as possible for students and seniors.

In booking music, we strive to present a variety of styles, as suits the diversity of our student body. We have somewhat of a leaning towards local and independent artists, and roots and indigenous styles.

Four recurring events:

Gator Groceries is a direct response to the need among the SFSU student population for more resources to fight food insecurity – the lack of access to nutritious food. With rising tuition and fees, textbook costs, and living expenses, more and more students are having to choose between essentials; such as food, education, and living costs.

We understand that food insecurity is NOT a choice and that access to a variety of nutritious food is a human right. Thus, we strive to provide programming that promotes awareness about food insecurity and supports food-insecure students in accessing nutritious food so that they may successfully complete and obtain their degrees without the negative health impacts of prolonged food-insecurity.
