Dear CSU Board of Trustees,
As a CSU student, I strongly oppose the proposed tuition increase.
This proposal threatens the accessibility and affordability of higher education, and is contrary to the CSU’s mission of accessible higher education.
The proposal lacks sufficient restructuring for financial aid, meaning that 40% of students would shoulder an increased financial burden without sufficient resources to help them afford their education. Although 60% of CSU students have their tuition and fees covered by aid, students are still experiencing affordability issues because of the total cost of attendance, including insufficient resources to address their basic needs.
The cumulative effect of yearly tuition increases can result in long-term financial consequences for students, which could result in higher levels of student loan debt and delayed career advancements. In an era where enrollment is down and institutional barriers to education remain, the proposed tuition increase would be detrimental to our students.
I implore you to vote no on the proposed tuition increase!
We stand with our student orgs – sign the petition!
